Common Signs of a Failing Motherboard

As we all know, the motherboard is the one holding all components inside the computer. It is where everything is connected. A computer can’t run without the motherboard because from the term itself, it is the main part of the computer. In this article, I’ll be giving you some of the signs of a failing motherboard.

Random restarts / shut down – This is one of the very common signs of a failing motherboard though you must also check carefully because it is also possible that there is only an error or a virus in your hard disk which is causing the problem. If after checking your hard disk for errors and viruses and problems still occur, it might already be your motherboard.

Bloated capacitors – Bloated capacitors is one of the obvious signs of a failing motherboard. This is usually caused by an overheating motherboard. Bloated capacitors are usually common in Pentium 4 motherboards because their motherboards are really prone to overheating. If your capacitor is looking like something that is ready to blow, that is surely a bloated capacitor. Capacitors can be replaced if it is bad already though most people prefer to change the whole motherboard than to have it repaired.

Blue screen – If you’ll be seeing a blue screen on your computer, you must check it first because blue screen’s occurs when there are problems on devices. If you’ll be able to fix the blue screen but will still come back after a while, there might already be a problem on your motherboard.

Burning smell – If your motherboard smells like a burning part, I would advise you to not use it anymore because it might already affect some other components. This is also a cause of overheating though sometimes, it is because of an incompatible component. Every motherboard has its own specifications, meaning that there is only a specific type of RAM, processor, hard disk or video card that you can use. If you’ll be using other type that is not compatible, it can damage your motherboard.

When a motherboard is damaged, you must also get a motherboard of the same socket so that all components can still be used. If you’ll be buying a motherboard of a different socket, some parts may not be usable already which means that you also need to buy parts that are compatible with your new motherboard.

To prevent having motherboard problems, it is important to have a good cooling system for your computer so that it would not absorb much heat. This will help you extend your motherboard’s life.
